What it does
The proxy server provides off-campus access to electronic resources licensed by the UC Berkeley Library. These include article databases, e-journals, e-books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, numeric data, and other premium online resources available through our website and catalogs.
Eligibility
Current UC Berkeley students, faculty, staff, registered visiting scholars and postdoctoral fellows with a CalNet ID or Library PIN are eligible to use this service [Details]. You do not need the proxy server if you connect to the Internet through the UC Berkeley network in a campus building or residence hall, or via AirBears.

Setup instructions
Choose your web browser from the list below. Follow the instructions to make a one-time change in your browser settings. After this, the proxy server will ask you to log in when you click on the link to a licensed resource.

Browser setup program for Netscape
The campus Information Systems and Technology office (IS&T) has developed a setup program for Windows and Macintosh that will configure the Netscape browser for use with the proxy server. Feedback regarding this software should be sent to the developers.

Another option
Virtual Private Network (VPN) is an alternative to the proxy server for users who have a CalNet ID. Some resources can only be accessed through VPN. [Details]
