gives priority to items in the UC libraries. Not all UC materials are in the database yet. See Help
and Frequently
Asked Questions.
Other
library catalogs
Individual library catalogs and websites in the Bay Area, the UC System, and elsewhere.
Electronic books let you do full-text searches, copy passages, and in some cases, bookmark, highlight, take notes, and perform textual analyses.
Most e-books in our collections allow only limited
downloading and/or printing (see Conditions
of Use). Most cannot be used on portable e-book reading devices.
Over 400,000 online items, including e-books, can be found through our library catalogs. Others are available only through specialized websites, most restricted to UCB access only.
ebrary
Our largest e-book collection, with 40,000 titles on a wide range of subjects. Find them in OskiCat (keyword: ebrary) or search the ebrary website directly. Some advanced ebrary features require downloading reader software.
Other e-book collections
The Library offers over 100 e-book and e-text collections in specific subject areas. E-books in collections marked * are also available through OskiCat and Melvyl. You can limit your search in OskiCat to "Available online," and in Melvyl to "Online resources."
University of California e-book projects
Google Book Search *
Books on many subjects, including titles from the UC libraries, digitized in partnership with Google. Melvyl lists many of these, but OskiCat does not. Full text can be displayed only if the book is out of copyright (generally, published before 1923) or if the copyright holder has given permission. Still in "beta," so results may vary as Google makes changes in its programming.
Internet Archive: Text
Archive
Several hundred thousand books in the public domain, from the
Open Content Alliance (OCA). Includes many books from our collections.
eScholarship
Editions (University of California Press) *
1,400 titles on a wide
range
of subjects from the University of California Press. Includes about 30% of UC Press books, both in and
out of print. Books can be viewed but not downloaded.
